The Fall TV season has ended, but there’s still some new stuff out there. If you’re like me, you probably have a lot of shows that you like to watch. But how do you keep up with all of those shows? With TV Show Tracker, that’s what. The latest major version, 2.0 (though the latest update is 2.0.1 for bug fixes), has enough changes that make it worth talking about, even though the app has been out for over a year.
The first thing you need to do when you launch the app is start adding in your favorite TV shows. TV Show Tracker will search the database for results and you can tap your selection to add it.
Once you do this for all the shows you care about, it’s time for you to go to the main screen, which features a quick overview for each show you put in. You have to swipe left and right to navigate through all of your shows. Each show will feature a representing image in the corner, which you can tap on to enlarge. Additionally, there’s an “i” on the image so you can view the synopsis of the show.

Other info that is shown is the day and time the show comes on, what station it’s on, and an iTunes link to buy or rent the show if you desire (US only). Underneath all of this is a comprehensive episode list that shows when the episode aired, along with the season and episode number information. Tapping any of the episodes will reveal an episode synopsis, a video preview, and an iTunes link.
There’s a checkmark box on each episode. This is to help you, the viewer, keep track of what you have and haven’t seen. Once you check something off, by default, the app will ask you if you want to mark all prior episodes (from the one you’re checking) as watched. If there are upcoming new episodes of a series, the app will tell you, along with the precise date.
There is another view, called “Poster Wall,” that will show up if you turn the device to the side. This places all images from the shows onto a 2×4 grid of posters. You can swipe left and right to navigate the pages, and tapping on any of them takes you back to the portrait view of that particular show.
With all these shows, it can be annoying having to swipe back and forth to see when the next new episode will be on, right? Don’t worry, the developers provided a Schedule view (bottom left calendar icon) that provides you with shows for the week, along with any upcoming ones and even previously seen episodes.
Are you in the mood to find a new show to watch? There’s a neat little “Show Genius” feature that will show up if you shake the device. The results will vary depending on the types of shows that you’ve already added. The green check mark will add the show to your listings, and the red x will not add it and take you back to where you were.

I found it a bit annoying that selecting the red x will take you back to where you were instead of bringing up another suggestion. It can be tiresome to have to keep shaking the device to get another result. I hope the developer can change that in a future update.
Now, the last, and probably most important, feature of TV Show Tracker is the ability to send you push notifications. The default setting is 15 minutes beforehand, but the app will let you know when there will be a new episode airing. No more forgetting that new episode of The Big Bang Theory (or whatever your favorite show is)! The notifications make the entire app worth it.
The app has some Settings for some tweaking, which include: Timezone Correction toggle, Notifications Toggle, TV Shows (you can select which ones you want to get notifications for), and Alerts (Before or After, 15/30/45 minutes or 1 or 2 hours).
I did encounter some crashes after using the app for an extended period of time. Other times I felt the app was a bit less responsive, and had to quit it completely and restart it before it felt normal again. I also really hope that the developer fixes the TV Show Genius so that you don’t have to repeatedly shake your device to get a new suggestion.
Despite these minor issues, I feel that this app is great for anyone that likes to keep on top of their favorite TV shows. Never miss an episode again!
