Five Excellent Second-Date Movie Picks on Satellite TV

For those who had excellent first dates, there's a desire to excel to the same level, or even top, that initial experience. And while going social again might be a good idea for those who don't feel comfortable talking in private yet, anyone who is thinking about dinner and a movie might want to get more creative. After all, there's not much that's romantic about stepping on sticky floors and getting popcorn stains on one's clothing while cell phones go off through the duration of the film. The fact is that it is often a lot more enjoyable to watch a film at home, and this way, it's possible to move beyond what's in theaters and to pick something that one's date might have mentioned as a favorite already.

Barring choosing one's favorite film or the favorite film of one's date, there are plenty of different great movies that are on satellite TV 24/7. Here are five excellent picks for second dates designed to make both parties happy.

#1 - Roman Holiday. A classic romance, this film is a great pick for a few different reasons. For one, it shows that the person who chose it is good at paying attention to classic cinema, not just today's options. And for anyone who is dating a cinephile, that is going to matter a lot. Plus, Audrey Hepburn is charming and fantastic yet again, and the chance to be whisked around an older Europe is great for those who are history buffs, too. It's a classic and an excellent pick.

#2 - The Wedding Planner. This isn't necessarily the best second date choice for a guy who is trying to hold his ground, but if it is on satellite tv and it happens to be the favorite of the lady on the date, then it is a great way to earn points. Plus, Jennifer Lopez is actually charming in her performance, and it's a chance to see something other than the horror of "Gigli," which is usually taking over satellite TV channels at those off-hours when people might be settling down to a second-date movie.

#3 - Breakfast at Tiffany's. This is another classic film, another Audrey Hepburn classic, and a film that's based on a novel: these three facts should be enough to keep anyone who prides themselves on being cultured contented. It's in black and white, it's edgy for its time, and it shows a woman who just wants to do things her way. It has inspired everything from "Desperately Seeking Susan" to episodes of television sitcoms, and it's the kind of movie that one needs to see, anyway. That makes it a great second-date pick.

#4 - Hitch. A Will Smith movie might not seem like the most obvious date choice, but "Hitch" is surprisingly sweet, and often on satellite tv, two qualities that make it a good pick. It teaches people important lessons about falling in love, but is cute and lighthearted enough to win over couples who are on dates. That's definitely the best way to win over someone in a less pushy way, too.

#5 - Something foreign. This can show that one is cultured, or this can simply be a chance to make conversation instead, which can sometimes lead to a far more engaging second date experience than staring at a screen in silence.
