Households are well-prepared for receiving high-definition broadcasts

Digita and the Satellite and Antenna Association SANT ry conducted an inquiry with antenna installation companies at the beginning of June 2009 concerning the ability of households to receive high-definition broadcasts. The results indicated that antenna households are well prepared. In addition to the existing UHF antenna, many households have the VHF antenna needed for HD receiving. The two multiplexes available in the current network license application process fall within the VHF frequency range.

A total of 49 antenna installation companies from different parts of Finland participated in the inquiry. According to the results, many viewers using a joint antenna system have an HD-compatible antenna. Thirty-seven percent of all private houses have a broadband log-period or joint antenna, and almost thirty percent of their antennas are HD-compatible separate antennas.

“All in all, the results indicated that households are quite well prepared. This of course makes HD transition simpler, because many households are already capable of receiving high-definition broadcasts, as indicated by the above inquiry,” says Martti Kemppi, chairman of the Satellite and Antenna Association SANT ry.
n transition to high-definition broadcasts, consumers are assisted by the DigitaPRO antenna technician network, for example, which consists of almost 70 antenna installation companies throughout Finland. DigitaPRO is a national expert partner network offering high-quality antenna solutions to consumers and companies.

“The specialised technician network was set up together by SANT and Digita. The aim was to bring professionals together and thus make terrestrial television broadcasting even more reliable and consumer-oriented. We want to train and develop the operation of the network actively. Having started its operation at the beginning of this year, the DigitaPR network has been very popular and many of SANT’s antenna installation firms have joined it. Such fast development was preceded by fluent cooperation between SANT and Digita,” says Tauno Hovatta, SANT’s Operative Director.

To antenna technicians, the DigitaPRO network offers long-term business opportunities and visibility. DigitaPRO technicians have access to up-to-date information on Digita’s services and the state of the antenna TV network. In addition, a technician in the network can contact the national information centre Digita Info for support. Other major benefits include regular training, expert support and a network of colleagues. Network membership is free of charge to technicians, provided that they have the necessary SETI qualifications (Category A or AT, Antenna and Tele).
